Blount County High Point Trip Report

Date: February 14, 2002
Author: Kevin Williamson

Blount county now has a new highpoint, due to an error on the topo map. The new county line between Blount county and Etowah county is the east-west running township line (T.12.S/T.13.S.). The new area can be found at 3-13S-3E at 1540+ feet. This area was the southernmost highpoint for Etowah county. The entire road route can be driven by car. Not all of the road route is on the topo or DeLorme. However this should not be a problem.

Starting at Exit 166 on I-59, Proceed northeast on SR231 for 6.6 miles to Washburn Road (not signed). This will be the first road on your right once you top out on the mountain. Turn right onto Washburn Road and travel 0.6 mile to Cliff Spring Road. The Church of God of Prophecy will be on the corner. Turn right onto Cliff Spring Road and travel 2.1 miles to Mountain Brow Road on your right. This will be a gravel road. Turn right onto Mountain Brow Road and travel 0.7 mile to a gated driveway on your left, this will be just past a right curve in the road.

At this point I was greeted by two vary large barking dogs and many goats. I honked my horn 4 times before the owner came to see who was at the gate. I explained why I was there and she said that when she bought the land that she was told it was the highpoint of Blount county. We had a vary nice conversation until it started to get dark and I needed to get back home. Overall, this turned out to be a very nice highpoint and highpoint owner, also a great view from the overlook.
