Blount County High Point Trip Report
Date: April 6-7, 2002
Author: John Mitchler
I was brutally Olsonized, and it was my own fault! I hadn't caught up with my cohp reading and failed to
notice the post by Kevin Williamson about the new county line of Blount County. I apologize to my brother
and nephew as they didn't have a chance to return with me and get the correct area. On the 6th, we did the
old area (you know, the one in Andy Martin's book) and on the 7th, I was told about the new area.
Later that evening as I listened to my cousins talk, I excused myself for a couple hours and, without map or report,
drove out into the dark of night and found the HP based on the directions I received earlier in the day.
This HP is northeast of Birmingham, along a ridge line on private property. Take exit 166 from I-59,
set your odometer to zero, and go north on US231. At mile 5.6, turn right (north) on blacktop Washburn Drive.
At mile 6.3, turn right (east) on blacktop Cliff Springs. At mile 8.4, turn right (south) on gravel
Mountain Brow Road. Go 0.7 mile to mile 9.1 and stop. The house on the left (east) is that of Tracy Martin.
Note the cowbell on the metal gate. The dogs bark but don't bite (yeah, right) and the goats have
horns but don't butt (yeah, right). The HP is a short walk to the left of the house and barn to an open area
with some artwork.
