Bullock County High Point Trip Report
two areas - one area at lookout tower (660+ ft) and Wolfpit Hill (BM WOLF)
Date: December 19, 2000
Author: Trapper Robbins
Wolfpit Hill is located in the SE portion of the county less than a mile from the Pike County border. From
the Pike-Bullock County border, drive ENE on CR19 about 3/4 mile. Look for the dirt road on left (N) at
the rise (just before junction with good road leading right). We parked on CR19 due to muddy conditions
but this dirt road can be driven. Proceed NW on dirt road passing gated road on right at slight dip. The
USGS quad shows a trail leaving right (N) where the road passes over a high area (about 0.3m from
CR19). We didn't find the trail but bushwhacked NW through small pines following the trail route. Total
distance from CR19 to summit is approximately 0.5 mile. The summit has a recently cleared grass area
with a nice view; the WOLF BM is on a short post at the upper edge of this small field near a hunting
blind. Going down, we found a steep rough track leading S from the field directly to the dirt road; it hits
the road W of where the trail is shown on the quad. This route is easier than the bushwhack but the lower
end of the trail is obscure and may be hard to find.
The second high point is located NE of Union Springs in the northern part of the county. From Union
Springs, drive 4.4 miles E on highway 82. Turn left (N) on CR30 and drive 0.8m to T junction. Turn
right (E) on CR40 and drive 3.7 miles. High point is on left (N), 0.1m from CR40, and is marked by
towers. The access road is gated and signed. Just to the right (E) of the access road is a hay field. We
followed the edge of this field to the summit area (radio tower, water tower, and old partially dismantled
lookout tower lying on it's side).
