Calhoun County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: November 18, 2006

I recommend following Bill Jacobs's report but things have changed a bit.
Morton Hill is now located in the Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge (NWR).
The approach is the same. CR55 is signed as Choccolocco Road, and the
turnoff with the gravesite is Bains Gap Road. Further up Bains Gap road, you'll
see a gate at the NWR entrance (open during daylight hours). At 0.8 mile after
passing through the gate, take a left at the sign advertising refuge information
(this signage is confusing, as there is a sign for Moorman's overlook -- do NOT
take this). After taking a left, go 1.7 miles, and park.
The summit is just to your right off the road. I was unable to locate the BM
amidst the fallen leaves.
Moorman's overlook does provide nice views. It's probably a mile or so past the
turnoff for Morton Hill.
