Cherokee County High Point Trip Report
Flagpole Mtn (1,968 ft)
Date: July 21, 2002
Author: Mike Beavers
After reading Fred Lobdell's trip report I decided to give this one a try. I located one to the trail heads for
the Pinhoti Trail and started up the trail to the top of Flagpole Mountain. After about a half mile my wife
decided that it was too hot (95+ and very humid) and we turned around.
Here are the directions to the trailhead: From the GA/AL state line take Highway 411 West for 2.4 miles.
Turn left onto County Road 29 and go 5.7 miles. Turn Left County Road 45 and go 2.4 miles. Then turn
left again onto County Road 8 and go 2.2 miles to the trailhead. The trailhead is not obvious and very easy
to miss. There is not a parking area. From the topographical map that I had it looks like the hike is between
4 and 5 miles round trip with about a 1,000 feet elevation gain.
There should be another trailhead on the other side of Flagpole Mountain but I could not find it.
Except for the Pinhoti Trail the area around Flagpole Mountain is very heavily posted.
