Houston County Highpoint Trip Report
one area (380+ ft)

US 84 has been relocated and upgraded to a dual-lane highway since Fred Lobdell visited;
the highpoint is now much easier to access. From the intersection of
US 84 and Alabama 123, go west on Route 123 about 0.8 mile. Watch for two black
mailboxes on the right and turn north here onto a drive/path that quickly bends
right again (east). There are a couple of nice homes that have been built in
this weedy-looking field (planted with baby pine trees). Drive east up the
sandy track that follows a tree line toward a nice brick house at the edge of
the woods. When you reach the residence, ask for permission to walk around
behind the house and dog pen to the edge of the woods. The highest ground is
near the edge of the woods, less than 200 feet north of the house. I used my
GPS to confirm that this is indeed the correct location of the 380+ foot contour.
