From Huntland drive south to Greasy Cove Road and follow it to its end at the farm of Mickey Williams,
phone 931-469-7956. We called ahead, and they are very friendly. They had us park at their house and
walk up the very rough dirt road that climbs the ridge to the southwest. After about a mile, the road splits
and goes both ways around the top (base) of Johnson Top. We hiked the 200 foot vertical
gain to the summit plateau, then headed southwest, got turned around and started walking north before
looking at my compass. We proceeded to the large pond shown on the topo.
From there, we followed the ridge southwest until it curved to the southeast. The distance on top of the
mountain is 0.75-1.0 mile one way. The highest point seemed to be at this curve in the contour. We then
hiked backed to the pond, then down a short drainage to the east and climbed back down to the road
which goes around the mountain, and north to the junction that goes back down to the farm.
Due to the flat, wooded nature of this mountain, it might be easier to hike up from the farm to the junction
around the mountain, hike southwest on the road for a about 2000 feet, and head uphill where the road
curves to the southeast. At the top is a drainage that can be followed southwest to the highest contour and
ridge curve about 2000-2500 feet farther. Good map skills and a compass come in handy here.
