Pickens County High Point Trip Report
three areas (620+ ft)
Date: September 28, 2003
Author: Bill Jacobs
Area One. From Gordo proceed north on H159 to Sam Junkim Road (10.7 miles?). The landowners at the
end allowed access through their property. Pass behind a red barn into an open field. Do not take first road
leading left but continue to the pasture hill crest and turn left up a primitive road. (Ignore the urge to climb
the hill to the left.) Follow the road south/southeast,
which begins to disappear the last 100 yards before the summit. A GPS is recommended.
Area Two. Drive up H159 another 0.3 mile. Turn right at "Moore Ridge Baptist" sign. Follow for 1.6 miles
(passing a road heading south at the 1.2-mile mark). As the road turns right at 1.6 miles there's a path
leading straight ahead up the hill to the high area.
Area Three. Return to the previously mentioned 1.2 mile turn off (0.4 mile south) and follow this rough
road for 2.4 miles. Turn right for 0.1 mile and scramble up hill to right. I combed the entire hilltop -
including the lower contour to southwest - by the light of a silvery moon to ensure the highest point was
trampled upon.
