Ashley County High Point Trip Report

Head east out of Fountain Hill on paved CR 92. The road will swing northward and after a couple of
miles will turn into an excellent dirt road. This surface change also marks the Drew-Ashley County line.
At this point another excellent dirt road breaks off to your right going eastward. You should see a yellow
Ashley 70 marker and a small cement pillar with F.A.S 825-1 on it. An old BM? Turn right on Ashley
70 which skirts the Drew-Ashley County line and proceed only 0.1 mile to the Ed Chavis Road on your
right (again). Park right here at the intersection and get out and tromp around.
Right at the SW corner of Ed Chavis Road & Ashley 70 is a slight rise/mound on the edge of the road and
a field/pasture. Hand leveling shows this is the highest visible point but trees on other side of Ed Chavis
need to be tromped in too. Talked to neighbor at 2914 Ashley and he mentioned that he is the one that
grates the road. Also that his grandparents were some of the first in the area so has been there for a long
time. Said that slight rise at corner (mentioned above) was not man made and had been there forever.
