Clay County High Point Trip Report
Date: June 10, 1999
Author: Andy Martin
After driving the length of Randolph and Clay counties I reached Crowleys Ridge,
an unusual ridge of terrain elevated a couple hundred fee above the flood plains
on both sides. I sure missed Fred right about then, as he could have spun a
geological yarn and explained the mystery.
Naturally all the counties in the vicinity have their highpoints situated on the ridge,
so I headed to the top of it in search of Clay's. I got as far as a locked gate on the
south line of section 29, where I had to leave the land of AC and enter the land of humidity.
I set a fast pace to the 2 small 540'+ areas that straddle a dirt lane. The west area had
a witness BM pointing to the east one, but I was unable to find BM McDougal on the east area.
Perhaps the dirt lane was widened, and took it out.
I left a register on a fence pole here and headed SSE to the third area,
which is grass covered.
