Marion County High Point Trip Report

Proceeding at a moderated rate I continued east to Pyatt AR, and then drove north
several miles on a decent condition dirt road to the site of the Tar Kiln Lookout Tower.
The tower was gone, replaced by a "Hillbilly Heaven" with some trailers, junked cars,
wash on a line, etc. I hollered a bit, but no one came out. I strolled briefly over
to look for the 1341 BM, but did not find it. It may be under a trailer.
I headed south on a lane to the second 1340'+ area near here, tailed by a friendly dog.
While returning from the small area I noticed a small foul smelling pond just
south of the dirt lane.
Back at the car I headed west to the third area for Marion County, which has a spot
elevation 1345. It was tree covered, and just NE of the top was a new habitation,
not shown on the topo map. I built a small cairn and left a register in the trees.
The topo maps had led me to expect much easier access for Marion county than is actually the case,
though I never did run into any land owners here.
