Perry County High Point Trip Report

Deckard Mountain is located in the Deckard Mountain Walk-in Turkey Hunting Area in the Ouachita National Forest. From Iron Springs Camp Ground on Highway 7 in northern Garland County go north approximately 3.2 to a pullout on west side the highway. Head west into the woods, soon crossing two small streams. Ascend steep northeast-southwest trending ridge and follow this ridge southwesterly until reaching saddle south of Deckard Mountain. Head north to forested summit, elevation 1812 feet. The area has recently undergone a prescribed burn, making for easy bushwhacking. The elevation gain via this route is approximately 850' and the distance 1.5 miles. The view when the leaves are on would be very limited.
