Washington County was another area that I used the DEM to narrow down the highpoint areas, in fact I was
able to narrow it down to one area. The DEM was able to confirm the spot elevation of 2382' in section 20
and the benchmark in section 17 with an elevation of 2379'. The highpoint indicated by the DEM was
southeast of the Benchmark about 1000'. To reach the benchmark, travel west from a cross roads place
called Health on National Forest Road 701 for 1.1 miles on the gravel road before it becomes pavement,
then travel 2.7 miles, the road turns north, till you reach a radio tower on the west side of the road.
There is a small gravel parking area here.
The benchmark is directly across the road. Travel southeast about 1000' feet to reach the highpoint.
I estimate that the highpoint is at least 10' higher than the benchmark putting its elevation at about 2,389 ft,
which is about what the DEM indicated at 2,390 ft. The highpoint is in a forested area that is on National Forest
Service Property, so access is not an issue. The actual highpoint is a somewhat broad area with no defined
highpoint, so tramping around is necessary.
The highpoint coordinates in decimal degrees are (35.8020 N, 93.9819 W).
