At the top is the first portable benchmark I have seen. :>) It is embedded in a boulder which is roughly a 1-foot cube that wobbled when we stepped on it. There was a bunch of windfall across the Crest Trail, but the Forest Service has been working on clearing it. One quarter-mile stretch required several detours and climbs over fallen trees. It was cool, even chilly, above 9000 ft. in contrast to the heat in the valleys.
