Yavapai County High Point Trip Report

This highpoint is 13 miles from Prescott, but only the last 6.5 miles are gravel. The pavement extends
beyond the cut-off to Camp Wamatochick. The gravel is good until the last 1.5 miles or so. I had a regular
passenger car (no 4WD), and made it to the barrier. However, I may have had to stop a mile sooner if it had
been rainy or if I had rented a car with very low clearance. My rental car had no trip odometer and did not
have tenths of a mile, but I tried to estimate half miles based on time between spots.
Walker Road is signed, and it is about 10 miles from Prescott and 3.5 miles from pavement. The cattle
guard is also obvious (and you should not drive over it, but continue to the left) and is about 5 miles from pavement.
Those who park at the cattle guard will have about 5 miles round trip on roads to hike.
To the left, the road is called Poland Road, but there is no sign unless you cross the cattle guard and look back.
Finally, the signs at the barrier at road's end are about 6.5 miles from pavement. The final mile beyond the
barrier is easy walking on an old roadbed. You will want to walk to the left at the T intersection.
