Alpine County High Point Trip Report
Sonora Peak (11,459 ft)
Date: July 23, 2000
Author: Jim Sommerville
Drove east on SR 108 to Sonora Pass and missed St. Mary's Trailhead as described in Gary Suttle's book.
Instead, I parked at Sonora Pass Parking area and gained access to th Pacific Crest Trail. Walked up an old
jeep road about 1/2 mile and than began ascent of mountain using faint paths to top. Outstanding views
down the Sierra, into Nevada and across California's central valley to Mt Diablo in the west. Hike took
about 3 hours and spent an hour on top admiring view. Only saw a few patches of snow due to this being a
light snow year.
