Lake County High Point Trip Report
Snow Mountain
Date: October 7, 2001
Author: Edward Earl
Adam and myself used the approach via Stonyford and Fouts Springs from the east.
Gary Suttle's directions were right on,
except that at the junction 1.8 miles before the county line, bearing right keeps you on Forest Road M10;
there was no indication of 24N02 as mentioned in the book. The hike itself is a wonderful sub-alpine classic
and hardly needs further mention.
The broad, flat summit of the hogback-like mountain is strewn with boulder piles.
The highest of these, on the north side, is the Lake county HP. The second highest, about 100 feet
southeast, is the Colusa HP. Snow Mountain is often climbed by non-county-HPers, and as a result the
summit register contained many names and I could not find a single one that was familiar.
