Los Angeles County High Point Trip Report
Mt San Antonio

Here are some ideas/updates for Mount Baldy: The ski lift, as of Summer, 2001,
runs only on Saturdays, Sundays, and
holidays, from 9-4:30. The casual cafeteria at the Notch (top of lift) is open the
same hours if you want to stop in during the
hike up or down. There's a bathroom inside the main building here, too.
Buy a Forest Adventure Pass in town, at the
Forest Service's Baldy Visitor Center in Baldy Village (8-4:30 daily),
at the Ice House Canyon store, or other sites displaying the sign for it.
If you don't use the lift, a nice way to go up is to park at the sign for San Antonio Falls Road,
less than a half-mile below the lift, and walk up this closed-to-the-public road.
It's not steep and is a nice way to warm up before it gets steeper.
At the lift area, bear left on service roads along the crest to the top of a green-chaired lift,
where the road becomes a great trail to the top.
Coming down, you can save a lot of time by going down a steep and, sometimes,
slippery use-trail directly below the lift to the bottom of it and a less-than-half-mile road walk
to San Antonio Falls Road. There's a campground just before San Antonio Falls Road.
