Mendocino County High Point Trip Report

Anthony Peak

Date: September 6, 2001
Author: Benjamin Stein

The dirt roads coming from Highway 101 to this nice little peak are currently in excellent condition. It is possible to drive right to the peak in a passenger car or, as recommended in Gary's Suttle's book, park at Well's Cabin Campground and enjoy the short walk. On our visit we found a very nice ranger in the lookout on top who gave us a highpoint certificate! She also pointed out some of the distant active fires and explained how the forest service monitored for fires. We could see Mt Lassen to the east and the Pacific to the west; and Black Butte just a few miles to the SE to which we were heading next. Really great views, and a real pleasure meeting the ranger.
