Placer County Highpoint Trip Report

Granite Chief (9,006 ft)

Date: September 2, 2005
Author: Bill Fincher

It was a beautiful September morning for a hike with many wildflowers still out at this late date. Clear views but quite breezy on top (a precursor of the gale-force winds that would appear the next day on Mount Lola). The fire station has moved to a location near highway 89. The trailhead has not changed and is still located beside the old fire station building. There were no signs on the building but it looks like a fire station with big, roll-up doors and a municipal look. It was being used for snow equipment storage and tree trimmer trucks.
