Plumas County High Point Trip Report
Mt Ingalls

I found some discrepancies with the driving directions in Gary Suttle's guidebook so I have updated road
directions for this summit.
On route 70 about 21 miles west of highway 395 turn right (north) onto Grizzly Road toward Davis Lake.
Coming from the west this turn should be about 3 miles east of Portola. Follow paved Grizzly Road which
will turn to dirt after 9.6 miles. Keep going on the dirt road until you have gone 11.7 miles and turn right
onto forest road 25N10. Reset odometer and note the following junctions: At 2.1 miles go right at a
junction and at 2.7 go straight through a four-way intersection. At 5.3 miles go left at a Mt. Ingalls Lookout sign.
At 6.9 miles go left onto forest road 25N39 which is not identified. The road is rougher here and high
clearance is needed. At 7.8 miles go right onto 24N09A which was marked. After 8.5 miles you reach a
three-way split and the center road, 24N09A, is the one to the lookout.
As Gary says it is one mile more to the top, but I wouldn't drive this unless you have four-wheel drive since
it is steep and rocky. At the top there is a loop around the summit with only a foundation remaining.
There was no register so I placed one at the northeast corner in a stack of rocks.
It may not last since this peak is visited by many OHV's.
