San Diego County High Point Trip Report

I flew into San Diego, landed at 7:30, on business. Rented a 4-wheel drive, drove to Hot Springs Mountain
and made it all the way to the top. The last 1000 feet of elevation saw about 3-5 inches of snow.
A non 4 wheel drive would not make it to or anywhere near the summit right now. However, a high clearance
vehicle could make the high ridge and get you within a couple or 3 miles, with easy hiking from there.
It's now 15 bucks to get on the reservation (new for 2002). What a cool area!
That old fire lookout is scary. I had excellent visibility, could see most of the prominent peaks from San
Gorgonio on south.
