San Diego County High Point Trip Report

I made really good time down to Los Coyotes Indian Reservation and paid my $10 to enter. The map they
gave me had different fees listed, it was supposed to $15 for 4WD. I had rented a Ford Escape which had
4WD but didn't really look like it. The first part of the road to the top was in pretty good condition, the last
two miles had some pretty rutted areas that I was afraid I might become high centered, but I didn't.
I got to the top and made my way through the brush to the summit rock and climbed up and signed the
register on top.
It was pretty windy that day and the gliders were out in force. Standing on the summit rock the gliders
would come within about a 100 feet of the summit, several times I was eye to eye with the occupants of the
gliders as they rode the thermals. Great views from the top. I also went and climbed part way up the old
lookout tower, it was really windy and the tower shook with each gust so I didn't make it all the way to the top.
Climbing those old stairs without any wind would be scary enough, but the wind was too much.
