The whole route was pretty much charred from the Haman fire. I didn't see a sign posted restricting hiking, so I proceeded. I did not see the fence that was mentioned in the cohp book. It was a pretty straight-forward approach along the ridgelines and then up to the saddle between Thunder and the southern butte. I made it up and down in a little under 3 hours, which included some time trying to navigate with my GPS. The views are well worth the effort. Excellent weather.
