Elbert County High Point Trip Report
five unnamed areas (7,360+ ft)
Date: June 10, 2002
Author: Fred Lobdell
These 5 areas are on or near Elbert's south county line, within two miles of the west county line.
Numbering the areas from west to east as 1 to 5, areas 1 and 3 are small rocky outcrops right on the county line;
the road jogs around them to the south. Area 2 is an indistinct rise of ground two or three hundred feet north of
the county line. But it is area 4, which is by far the largest, that appears to contain the HP. Near the west
edge of the summit contour are a couple of large outcrops of flat-lying rock, but the highest part of this area
seems to lie further east. One candidate is in a grassy pasture land, a few hundred feet north of the county line;
here someone has built a small cairn. A short distance north of the cairn is a group of 3 pine trees in an
area marked by rocky outcrops, and this is my choice for the true HP. Area 5, a small contour a short
distance east of the large area, is not readily apparent on the ground, and must be lower than the large area.
