From the lumber mill at the junction of Colorado 13 and county road 27 proceed to the Routt National
Forest boundary. Reset your trip odometer and proceed 4.7 miles to a trail sign on the left identifying trail
1185 and Black Mountain.
Follow a good trail for 3 miles to the ridge where you will encounter a sign for the east summit of Black
Mountain at 10,801 ft. Turn left and hike for approximately 5 minutes on the trail to the high point.
My GPS was showing 10,859 ft but maps indicate 10,840 feet.
