This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting Colorado county highpoints in August and early September 2006.
A classic hike, Mount Zirkel occupies the better part of daylight hours.
Tim Worth and I used eight of them.
The route is largely on-trail and is amply described in Dave Covill and John Mitchler's
Colorado highpoints book.
However a correction is needed - the trailhead elevation is 8,500 feet - so making a
net elevation gain of 3,700 feet. I estimate 125 feet of uphill travel on the return,
so making a total elevation gain of 3,700 + 2 x 125 = 3,950 vertical feet.
