Fred Lobdell's directions and observations are still valid. If following his directions, zero the odometer at the junction of US 17 and FL 44 in the downtown business district of Deland. There is another seemingly disconnected junction of 44 and 17 about a mile or two south. You'll know when you're in the very handsome downtown area. We rang the bell at house number 3460, whose backyard contains the highpoint, but no one was home, so we made a quick visit and hoped the homeowners would forgive us.
