Baker County Highpoint Trip Report

I was able to "devirginize" this southwest Georgia county while visiting my parents for Christmas. From Arlington, GA, go south on SR 216, just before the Baker county line go right where SR 216 forks off to the left (you are now on CR 119). The four possible highpoints are located north and south of the non- existent town of Crestview. I have listed these points from north to south.

HP 1 is located on the west side of the highway about 1000 feet from the road. Upon my arrival, I found a farmer herding cattle on an ATV. As I approached his fence some of the cattle started running towards me so I figured the farmer would get upset that I was disturbing his operation. However, he was pleasant and said he had no problem with me walking on his land as soon as he got the cattle off it. I came back 45 minutes later and reached point #1. This field is used for corn in the growing season but was pasture on the day I did it.

HP 2 is what the farmer said is the true HP and I tend to agree. The highest point is either in the graveyard or east near the Christ Church or adjacent field. The farmer's buildings on the west side of the road are lower.

HP 3 is 500 feet west of the road in some briars and pine trees. From this area point 2 is visible and obviously higher.

HP 4 is on both sides of the road but the east side seemed higher. The other three points cannot be seen from this area. There was a 10-foot mound of grass covered dirt on the southeastern part of this contour that was probably removed from the nearby field and was obviously manmade.
