Charlton County High Point Trip Report
one area 3/4 mile southeast of Clarking (180+ ft)
Date: January 12, 2004
Author: Michael Schwartz
Fred Lobdell's report of February 2001 is still valid.
However, note that from the village of St. George, one goes west on GA 94 rather than east.
The road south to the highpoint area from the railroad tracks is still gated.
Fred describes a "subtle height of land", which is where the road goes over a culvert,
and is unmistakable. From that point, GPS indicated the center of the highpoint area was 500 feet away
at a true bearing of 058 degrees. It was easy to follow the rows of planted trees to the center
of the highpoint contour, which was very flat.
