Dodge County Highpoint Trip Report
four small areas 5/8 mile northwest of Gresston (420+ ft)
Date: March 9, 2007
Author: Michael Schwartz
Start opposite the Gresston Baptist Church along US 23 in Gresston. The area
containing the highpoints is now a huge clearcut. I drove west on 23 about 1/3
mile and turned right (northeast) onto the road shown on the topo at spot
elevation 403. Drive 0.5 mile and turn left onto Hosford Road, not shown on the topo.
When it bears right, bear left onto a grassy track road heading for the
clear-cut, and soon turn left onto a sand road heading for high ground.
Everything is wide open, so just follow your nose to the northeast bump,
which can be Martinized.
Backtrack a bit and continue southwest to the next bump, which can also be Martinized.
From there, it's a short stroll to the two small areas along the railroad right-of-way.
If access to the clear-cut is barred by gates or posting,
park along US 23 at the crest, cross the tracks, and hike northeast
into the clear-cut.
