Muscogee County High Point Trip Report
Date: November 11, 2000
Author: Bill Jacobs
Muscogee County highpoint is an easy hill to reach and is conveniently located near three other Georgia
(Harris, Talbot, and Meriwether) and two Alabama (Lee and Russell) cohps. All six of these could be
"bagged" in a half day. Accompanying me were my nephew's two sons, residents of the county, who
shared the distinction of being the first to climb their home county's highest point. They duly reported
this to their teachers and the local paper.
From exit 8 on I-185, a few miles north of Columbus, GA, travel east for less than a mile to Fortson Rd.
Continue north for a few miles and after crossing a railroad track turn right at the second road. The topo
map indicates an unimproved road but it is now an upscale housing development. Proceed straight ahead
and on top of the second hill the road turns 90 degrees to the left. Exit into the first cul-de-sac to the right
and proceed on foot into the woods directly ahead and to the right of the only home on this street. In a
few hundred yards the woods open up into a timber-cut area.
Turn left and proceed up the hill, back into the woods, to the highpoint.
