Maui County Highpoint Trip Report

Not much effort involved in this mid-day drive up into Haleakala National Park -- I would like to hike up
through Kaupo Gap someday but I had along my wife, my one-year-old son, and two friends who don't do
much climbing.
It was a partly cloudy day with intense winds up at the observation "building."
Good views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea to the southeast, no good views to the west.
It's hard to tell, but I would be inclined to think that the original highest point
no longer exists due to the grading for the panoramic building they have erected there.
But we touched all potential high spots while we were taking photos.
The drive up and down was a truly ear-popping experience!
