From the town of Manning, Iowa, drive west on Route 141 to an intersection with M-66 Road. Turn right (north) on M-66 (Birch Road) and drive for 5.5 miles (just the first mile is paved). Watch for a large water tower on the right. The first two areas lie on the east (area 1) and west (area 2) sides of the road, roughly 0.25 mile north of this water tower. The higher spot is on the left (area 2) out in the bean field (41.9922 deg N, 95.07305 deg W).

Two more areas can be reached by continuing north another 0.25 mile to the intersection with 250th Street. Turn left (west) and proceed about 0.25 mile to an obvious ridge that crosses the road. The areas on the south (area 3) and north (area 4) sides of the road have the same contour lines as areas 1 and 2, but hand-level and relative altimeter/GPS readings confirm that area 2 is the highest.

Since the crops were beginning to grow, I was grateful that these fields were planted with beans this year, rather than corn.
