Palo Alto County High Point Trip Report

From IA highway 4 near Graettinger, we drove 5 miles W on county road B14 until it ends at a T
intersection with county road N26 (actually, it is a 4-way intersection, but the continuation straight ahead is
gravel). From there we drove 1/2 mile N to where the HP is about 100 yards E of the paved road. I asked
permission to walk there at a house a short distance N. The person there said she didn't own it, and said that
the owners lived in the second house to the N, about a mile away. That was very convenient, as the said
house was also the one adjacent to the Emmet county HP! So I proceeded up there and found the owners
having lunch behind their house. They were friendly and said I was welcome to walk up to the HP on a path
that was already there. I proceeded past a tractor and a garage and found no path, but it was no problem to
walk up the 500 yards across a plowed field to a radio tower on the HP, where I spent a few minutes
checking the field against the topo map to verify my location.
We proceeded S back to the Palo Alto HP. I had forgotten to ask the owners specifically for permission to
walk up to it, but since they were agreeable I presumed it would be OK.
