Bannock County Highpoint Trip Report
Bonneville Peak (9,271 ft)
Date: July 16, 2006
Author: John Vitz
I climbed Bonneville Peak from the ski area. There is only one tricky point on
the jeep road to the top lift station. After the third switchback (not counting
the right hand turn onto the main jeep road just above the top of the lowest lift),
the jeep road splits. Stay left; the right hand fork will get you to
places where you don't want to be.
After the hike, I drove to the top of Sedgwick Peak (9167 feet). Exit US30 in
Lava Hot Springs, turn west on Main Street and go to South 4th W and turn south.
Go 1.3 miles to a dirt gas pipeline road (just before the cemetery) and turn
east and go through a gate. Continue east and then south 3.4 miles to Wyoming
Trail (the only non-private road in the area). Follow this HCV 4WD road 6.5
miles to the summit. Some of the road is good but other parts are steep and
rocky (sharp rocks).
