Benewah County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: June 23, 2006
Author: Adam Helman
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting Idaho, Montana, and Washington county highpoints in late June and early July 2006.
My rental had no tenth-mile digit. It was therefore difficult to use the mileages
provided in previous reports. I used dead reckoning - holding my auto's speed relatively fixed,
I counted the seconds between when the mile-digit turned over; did the math in my head;
and estimated when the ten-mile-based junctions should be coming near.
This worked.
The approach road is slow after the 9.5 miles of Latour Creek Road.
On the latter one can drive 30 m.p.h. without difficulty.
From the 3.2 mile junction of Bob Packard's report to the 4.3 mile junction,
there are now several additional junctions with side roads leading to the right.
They should all be disregarded.
The hikes themselves, for both Benewah and Kootenai Counties, were quite enjoyable.
