Bonner County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: July 1, 2006
Author: Adam Helman
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting Idaho, Montana, and Washington county highpoints in late June and early July 2006.
Bonner County's Scotchman Peak is a classic hike. The views enjoyed once above the treeline
are most excellent - especially of Lake Pend Oreille far far below.
I had a mountain goat as company at the summit. Shy, he (she?) dashed away
whenever I hinted at an approach. It did, however, enjoy licking my urine for its
salt content.
Actual hiking time up was 1 hour 53 minutes; plus a ten minute break after the
first 2,250 vertical feet. Actual hiking time down was eighty minutes.
This trail is quite efficient.
That said, don't insist on (or expect) a similar 2,000 feet an hour climb rate!
