Hayden Peak
Date: September 25, 1999
Author: Walt O'Neil
From Highway 78 just south of the Snake River in Owyhee county take the Sliver City Road,
which has a well marked turnoff about 4 miles SE of Murphy. Proceed 19 miles on a
rugged dirt road, but easily driveable with a 2WD vehicle, past New York Summit.
Turn left shortly after on a dirt road. If you come to the "T" intersection
that has a sign to Silver City, you've gone too far.
This road is windy and poorer quality and winds around War Eagle Peak,
which is on the right with a radio tower, shortly after which you come to a fork.
Bear left and head to a parking area where the road turns south toward
Triangle and Cinnabar Mtn. There is a sign, partly brush covered here.
Hike SE on a jeep trail and switchback to the peak. There is a radio tower
and a BM Silver on top. The view north is great.
It is apx. 9 miles from the Silver City Road to the parking area. and a 4WD
would be advisable from the fork. Hiking from here would be about 4 miles one way.
The elevation at the fork is 7920'. The parking area to Hayden Peak is about 0.5 mile and is at 7640'.
Viewing the prominent mountain from rt. 78, Hayden Peak is the second from the left.
