Shoshone County Highpoint Trip Report

Illinois Peak (7,690 feet)

Date: August 16, 2008
Author: Adam Helman

This effort is part of a larger journey collecting Montana and Idaho county highpoints in August 2008.

It is 17.7 Adam truck miles (18.0 statute miles) from the start of Cedar Creek Road to Freezeout Pass where the ascent begins. Here, my truck's odometer typically reads one-sixtieth part low.

There is 1,500 feet net elevation gain and 1,900 feet total elevation gain due to 150 feet of uphill on-trail and 50 feet of uphill on the one-mile of road walking.

The ascent consumed 1 hour 10 minutes; 1 hour for descent; and 2 hours 45 minutes round-trip (including my summit break).

The road's end (and trail's start) is at WGS84 (47.02576° N, 115.04193° W) with 6,415 feet elevation. One mile (and twenty mintues) of hiking gets you there from Freezeout Pass.
