Alexander County High Point Trip Report
Date: May 14, 2002

I followed Jon Mann's report but after about 1 mile Whitney Hollow Road was severely washed out and impassable.
I parked here and figured I'd hike to Bass Hill Road, but a bulldozer showed up so I had to move,
and decided a northern approach.
From County Line Road and Whitney Hollow Road, head west on County Line about 1.5 miles to two successive
creek crossings. Between the two is a gravel turn-around to the south not shown on the topo, a good place
to park. From here, follow the creek southwest and find a good spot to bushwhack up what is marked on
the topo as Dago Hill - an elevation gain of 280 ft - monstrous by Illinois standards! Heading southwest,
drop down a bit from Dago Hill and then back slightly uphill and you'll get spit out at the Bass Hill fire
tower turn-around, which is the HP.
Brush wasn't particularly thick. Pleasant hike. This route is entirely National Forest land,
thus access should not be a problem.
