Boone County High Point Trip Report

Way up north along the Wisconsin border in Burr Oak farm country is this
pleasant hill a short walk from the road.
From Harvard, go west on IL173 to Capron and take Burr Oak Road north almost to
the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Look for the Weeks farm, 1.0 mile north of
Engelhardt Road and 0.7 mile south of the state border. The two highpoint areas
are east and south of this farm about a quarter mile east of the road.
Mr. Weeks said in the 1930s there was a 600-foot metal survey tower there, and
that this was the "highest point between Chicago and Madison." We found the BM,
Weeks 1935, about ten feet east of the lone Boxelder tree along the fence line.
The north area is flat feed-crop land. The south area has a sharp rise but they
look very similar. I did this in my pre-handlevel days.
