Cass County High Point Trip Report
"Kuhlmann Hill"
Author: John Mitchler
Overlooking the mighty Sanagmon River near its mouth along the Illinois River in
west-central IL, this cohp is a gentle rise up on a bluff and is cropland.
Dick Ellsworth's report took me right to it. In answer to his question, the Hill
Road is Khulmann. To Dick's report I might add that in Beardstown (a tavern-
loaded river town), take 6th Street off US67 near the bridge, then go 1.6 miles
through town to the cemetery which Dick uses as the start of his mileages.
I also noticed that where Kuhlmann Hill Road leaves Chandlerville Road and ascends
the bluff, there are excellent exposures of loess, a wind-blown glacial material
deposited 17,000 years ago. It is soft but competent.
