Wallace County High Point Trip Report
Mt Sunflower (4,039 ft)
Date: August 6, 1997
Author: Ron Tagliapietra
This was a repeat visit to the privately-owned highpoint (first visited by me August 21, 1994) for the sake of Dan
and Gail Johnson.
Exit I-70 for Kanorado at exit 1. Turn south on the paved road for 13.5 miles (turns to gravel about half way).
Follow the jog in the road here (left and then right after almost a half mile). Continue south for about
8 miles until you see the sign for Mt. Sunflower on your right. Turn right and drive a mile on the dirt lane.
You can now see the summit to your right, but it is easy enough to drive there.
The summit sports a large dead tree limb with a cow skull hanging on the end of it. It also sports other
amusing markers such as one saying, On this site in 1897, nothing happened.
Be sure to sign the register before you leave.
