Jefferson County High Point Trip Report
BM Riley 2 in South Park Hills
Date: October 6, 2001
Author: Levi Foust
Disclaimer: there is probably an easier route than mine.
The highpoint can be reached from highway 65 by going 1.7 miles south from 265 (a.k.a. Gene Snyder Freeway)
and parking under the bridge or by 65 North, 0.3 miles into Jefferson County from Bullitt County
and parking under the same bridge.
Climb up the embankment to the road above and head west 100 yards or so and turn left onto the road that
runs parallel with highway 65. Just a few more paces there is an Old Regular Baptist Church (shown on
Topozone map). Just beyond the church, there is a power-line cut running west, all the way up to the ridge
near the highpoint. Head west on the private drive almost under the power-lines. The owners of this
property live at the end of this quarter mile gravel lane. They were just exiting the drive when I came and
they allowed me to hike past their pond and up the power-line cut. (The highpoint is owned by the
"brickyard" which is on the other side of the mountain. The woman's dad operated an air traffic control
beacon back in the day where the BM Riley 2 used to be, but neither the beacon or the BM exist anymore.)
Once on top the ridge, hike north less than a half mile to the fairly prominent highpoint.
