Logan County High Point Trip Report
spot elevation (868 ft) and one area (860+ ft)

My original plan was to attack this unnamed point by coming from the north off Highway 68. However, any
access from this route was impossible due to posted property, locked gates, and off-duty policemen (his
house is the last one on Morton Road). From the south, I was more successful.
From Russellville, head out of town on Highway 100, going southeast. Travel approximately 3.0 miles on
Highway 100 to Wildcat Lane, turning left. Wildcat Lane is graveled for the first 0.5 mile, then
progressively deteriorates (oxymoron?) from a dirt road, to a double track and then disappears altogether.
Under normal conditions, this should not be a problem for a high-clearance vehicle or, in my case, a rental
car. The road passes through two un-gated fence openings, and skirts the pond shown on the topo maps. I
was able to drive right up to an old fence line, now overgrown with thick underbrush and trees, and
bushwhack a short distance to the summits.
Although very flat on top and completely tree covered, I was able to identify the first high point by GPS. I
then hiked 0.2 mile to the southeast to gain the second area. I was definitely "flying by instruments." It is
impossible for me to determine which area is higher. I did, however, witness the depression shown on the
topo map that lies between the two points.
Upon my return to the car I saw two buzzards flying overhead, certainly disappointed that they would not be
dining on Southwest cuisine that night.
