From exit 76 of I-75. At end of the ramp, go east on 21. Travel through 4 intersections with traffic signals
to the 5th at 1.5 miles. Make a right and go about 100 feet to the 4-way intersection (Boone Tavern Hotel
will be to the left and Union Church to the right). Turn right onto 595. Go 4.9 miles, to just past
Macedonia Baptist Church. Turn left onto Burnt Ridge Road. Go 1.3 miles, passing a small clearing on
right and up the next knob to where the road crosses the 1,600' contour.
There is a sturdy iron gate on the left.
Once parking, follow the ridge north 2/10 mile to the southern HP. Actually, there are two HPs within the contour.
From here, travel down the north-northeast slope to an ATV trail which then follows the ridge-line
to both HPs on Bear Mountain. Be prepared for greenbriers! There are a few steep slopes, but the ATV
trails help immensely.
You may also want to bag Rockcastle and Jackson County's HPs while you're in the area.
