Russell County High Point Trip Report

For the northern area, start at the junction of KY 80 and KY 910 in Windsor, then drive south on KY 910
for about 1 mile, pass a church on the right and look for the Russell county sign. Pull into the first house on
the right. The highest area seems to be across a barbed-wire fence just north of the house. Nobody was
home here or across the street, so we quickly and carefully scaled the fence and made the 100 feet or so to
the highest area and back. This contour seemed to only have about 3 feet of gain.
For the southern area, take KY 80 west to Russell Springs, then go south on Highway 127, through
Jamestown, and about 5.5 more miles south to the junction with KY 55, and another 0.4 mile south and turn
left onto Clifty Creek Road. Drive east 0.5 mile and turn left into #570, the Mann residence. The highpoint
is marked at a dark blue water tank in the field to the northeast. This was my second visit here, and still
nobody home, but someone running for a local political office pulled up also and didn't think people in the
area would care if we hiked up, and that was enough for us. We weren't trying to hide anything, and left
our car at the house and were ready to talk if they got home before we left. We crawled under the loosely
strung barbed-wire/electric fence, and hiked about 200 yards to the water tank and circled it. This area
seemed to have more gain than the other area.
