Todd County Highpoint Trip Report
Pilot Rock (966 ft)
Date: April 28, 2006
Author: Fred Lobdell
The Todd cohp is an almost-twofer with the Christian CoHP (on Pilot Rock, 950+ feet).
Todd's HP is at the summit and Christian's is a short distance west of
the summit. I followed Ken Oeser's fine report for these two.
We had some difficulty in locating KY 507 in Hopkinsville and wound up taking US
68 east to where we could go north on KY 1716 and KY 508 to get to KY 507.
From there we followed Ken's directions and parked just about at the crest of the
road and apparently just west of the county line.
At this turnout there was a stairway, made mostly of concrete blocks, and this I ascended.
This route had no iron ladder as mentioned in Ken's report;
perhaps there is more than one ascent route.
I did not locate the bench mark, but I did find a circular depression in the
rock where it might have been.
One warning: if you like poison ivy, you'll love
this summit area. Ken had the advantage of doing this one in December,
and thus avoided the full effect of the vegetation.
