Bienville Parish High Point Trip Report
Driskill Mtn (535 ft)
Date: July 26, 1997
Author: Ron Tagliapietra
This was my second attempt at this highpoint. I went with Dan and Gail Johnson.
Exit I-20 at Arcadia (exit 69). Drive south on SR 151 into Arcadia, where you can turn south on SR 147.
Follow it for 6.7 miles, and fork right onto SR 797. After 3.7 miles, you will reach a T with SR 507.
Turn right and drive about 3/4 mile to Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, where you can park.
Hike north for 0.3 mile on the dirt road west of the parking lot to a fork in a saddle (passing side roads on
either side en route). You will see No Trespassing signs intended to keep hunters out. Highpointers are
welcome and need not be concerned about the signs. The right fork goes up, but only to a false summit;
the left fork contours around the false summit.
I took the route to the false summit on my first attempt. On my second attempt, we repeated our route to here,
and then continued down to a gap on the road, and then up the next hill to the summit cairn and register.
However, we had to climb barbed wire fences. Instead, go left at the fork, and contour around the
false summit. Stay right after another 0.1 mile, continue 0.3 mile to the second saddle (where we met the
road after crossing the false summit), and then the final 0.2 mile to the highpoint.
The total road-walk is 0.9 mile each way.
